Description:
A hyper converged integrated system (HCIS) leverages software-defined storage to aggregate local direct attached storage (DAS) of x86 server(s) into a shared pool of highly available storage capacity and utilizes software-defined compute via a hypervisor to make compute workloads portable and highly available. This results in a distributed, modular network of teamed servers (individually referred to as “nodes” and when combined collectively referred to as a “cluster”) that deliver both storage capacity and compute power. A single management platform collectively manages and controls the storage and compute functions and provides additional data services. HCIS can be used to replace or complement legacy infrastructure consisting of separate servers, storage networks, and storage arrays. HCIS can be expanded through the addition of nodes to the base unit to add capacity and performance.
